IMIDOPET TABLETS
- Imidocarb is a urea derivative used in veterinary medicine as an antiprotozoal agent for the treatment of infection with Babesia sp and other parasites.
Composition: Each uncoated chewable tablet contains Imidocarb Dipropionate equivalent to Imidocarb 60 mg & Excipients q.s.
Dosage:
- 5-6.6mg/kg b.wt once for two days and repeat the dose after 14 days for another two days.
Pharmacodynamics: There is a potential for adverse reactions mediated by the autonomous nervous system and especially through anticholinesterase mechanisms.
Pharmacokinetics: Significant Imidocarb residue levels was found in liver and kidney but not in muscle and brain following oral administration.
Indications:
Dogs: For treatment of Babesiosis (B.canis, Large Babesia), Ehrlichiosis (E.canis) & Hepatozoonosis (H.canis). It is also indicated for the treatment of Tick Fever caused by mixed infection due to B. canis, B. gibsoni, E. canis, A platys & H. canis with combination drugs Including IMIDOPET, ARTEBABE, ATAVON PRO and MACROZEE.
Cats: For treatment of Babesiosis, Cytauxzoonosis & Hemoplasmosis.
Mode of action: Imidocarb acts by interfering with the production and / or utilization of polyamines, or prevention of entry of inositol into the erythrocyte containing the parasite.
Side effects: Imidocarb has a small margin of safety in the target species.
Dogs: Mild cholinergic signs such as salivation, nasal drip or brief episodes of vomiting, panting, restlessness and diarrhoea.
Cats: Salivation, tearing, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle tremors, restlessness, rapid heart rate and difficulty in breathing.
Precaution:
- The cholinergic signs may be reversed or avoided by administering atropine sulphate.
Directions for use:
- Use either whole tablet or split it as required for administration. The tablet may be fed by hand or placed on food. Open the animal’s mouth gently and slowly administer the tablet. Care should be taken to ensure that the dog consumes the complete dose. Coughing may be observed in some animals during and for several minutes following administration. Avoid over or under-dosing. Do not use it simultaneously with anthelmintic and cholinesterase inhibitor drugs.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.
